HUNTERVILLE HOTEL LOST BY FIRE
Brigade Concentrates On Saving Town WANGANUI, last night. The Argyle Hotel, Hunterville, a two-storeyed house of 42 rooms, was totally destroyed by. fire last night. Four loclc-up shops, forming part of the hotel building, are also , a total loss. The fire was noticed first by a passer-by at a'bout 9.30 p.m. - The hotel was fully booked'at the time, but the majority of boarders were at the pictures. The origih of the fire is not lcnown. It started in the top storey and when the Hunterville fire brigade arrived, the building was a mass of fiames. All the brigade could do was to concentrate 011 saving1- a valuable and large portion of the town, which at one stage seemed in imminent danger. 0 F'ortunately, the night was cairn, and that aided the brigade to accom- ' plish the task. The Marton fire brigade- arrived within half an hour. The hotel was covered by insuranee, but the amount is not yet known.
