General MacArthur has banned1 the general strike calletl to-morrow throughout Japan, where more than 3,000,000 w'orkers are reported ready to stop work in protest against Ihe present Japanese Cabinet, which they call unpatriotie. General MacArthur's statement says that the people involved in the threatened strike were only a small minority, and he could not allow labour leaders to use such a deadly weapon in Japan's present impoverished condition. He described his order as one of dire emergency ancl said that he did not otherwise intend to restrict labour in the achievement of its legitimate end. Meanwhile, it is announced in Tokio that the Prime Minister, Yoshida has .reshuffled his Cabinet, and brought in two new Ministers. It is reported that this follows the threat by the labour leaders to go ahead with the strike in spite of General MacArthur's order.
