BXPENSiE! TQ RATEPAYERS ON'LY £100. Statements of the Christmas and Xew Year carnival receipts and expenditure were presented to the Rotorua Borough Council on Thursday night by the Advancement Committee. This showed that £511 had heen reeeived from the lessee of the amnsement rights, while the ga'te takings on Boxing 'Night, the only night on which the eojnmittee had been responsible for these, were £13 10s Od. O'n the expendifeare side, the expenses of the Auckland Boys' Band were £185, prizes presented by the 30,000 Cliib, £150; fireworks £40; advertising, £42; and wages and materials £238. The amount that the carnival actually cost the ratepayers was therefore only £100. The amount reeeived from the amusement rights last year was £334t. The general opinion seemed to be that the standard of amusements provided was saperior to that of other years. There was an increase oi £84 in prizes for the parade of dieYorated vehicles, and an additional £52 was spent on wages and materials was due to renovations to the lake front stage. j The committee plaeed on reeord its appreciation of the help the Maori people and of the high standard of entertainment offered by the Ngati Tura concert party. The committee's thanks were due to the local and visiting artists, to St. Michael's Maori choir and to the Patricia school of dancing. Special reference was made to the co-operation of the 30,000 Cluh in taking responsibility i'or the vehicles parade, the children's fancy dress jiarade and the carnival hall, each of these functions having heen a marked success. 1 In eommenting on the report, Mr. O. H. Coleman said that the committee wished also to thank the borough offi^cers and their staffs for the smooth ranning of the carnival. The report was reeeived.
