S.P.C.A. PET PARADE AND STREET COLLECTION
Approximately 200 spectators went to watch 30 dogs go through their •paces in the enclosure at the Ritz Hall j esterday afternoon, when the Rotolua S.P.C.A. held a dog show in conjunction with their street appeal day. There were dogs of all shapes, sizes and colour. Despite the fact that competitors had only three days' notice in which to prepare their pets for the event, there was a surprisingly good entry. Officials were highly pleased with the show, aird indications were that entries >will be even higher at the next "Pet Parade," which will prohably be held in six months' time. There were three classes in yesterday's parade, best conditioned dog, best tail-wagger and best trained dog. At their next show the society hopes to have more classes. The judge, Mr. G. Jackson, expressed satisfaction with all entries. The cbject of the pet parade and the street appeal was to raise funds for the S.P.C.A. animal fh;st-aid clinic, he explained. Class winners in the pet parade were as follows: — Best-Conditioned Dog: Hinemoa Warbrick's Great Dane, 1; M. Gomez' Pekinese 2 Master R. Builke's entry 3. Best-Trained Dog: Arnold 'Clayton's spaniel, 1. Best Tail-Wlagger: Arnold Clayton's spaniel, 1. In the class for the best-conditioned dog there was so small a margin between the competitors that a special third prize was given. The street day appeal resulted in just over £126 being collected, an increase of £18 over last February's elfort. This, considering the reduced r.umber of collectors available, is considered most gratifying, and thanks are expressed to all who assisted.
