SERIOUS TROUBLE IN BURMA FEARED
Clash Between Police And Commtmists LONDON, January 21. Government officials in Burma i'ear serious distur'nances following a threat by Communists to besiege Government oifices, says Reuter's Rangoon correspondent. There has already heen oue clash between Communists and police. Oue nuunher of the Communist Red Flag party was killed and four serii.usly woumled when police ti ied to eject them l'roni a Government huilding at Katha. in central Bi'rma. The police are reported to have usecl smoke boinhs, and they arresteil a numher of men and five women. Government departments in Rangoon are functioning, though hundreds of officials are absent. Most shops are closed. Oqg high official deelared: "Of course, we are very anxious. Anything may happen at any time." A Labour Department spokesman said that a big, if not a general strike, was possible. Police several times turned a hose on a huge crowd surrounding the Rangoon secretariat conipound, where 1000 armed troops were on duty. Other troops are guarding Government buildings, banks and business houses.
