FIVE MEN FINED FOR BOOKMAKING

NEW PLYMOUTH, Last Night. Five men who appeared before Mr Morling, S.M., on bookmaking charges, were fined a total of £230 to-day. All pleaded guilty. They were John Edmund Tedder, savnnill liand, Motueka, fined £50; William Kirkland Keir, iicensee of the Central Hotel, £50; William John Bowden, tearoom proprietor, £30; William Ronald Carey, "who was using the bar of the Panama Hotel, £50; Roy Lodge, who was using the bar of the Provincial Hotel,' £50. The Magistrate commented that betting offences on licensed premises were viewed very seriously by licensing eommittees.
