BUYERS SATISFIED WITH FAKED PAINTINGS
LONDON. When the French artist Georges Khoury-Gomnene was accused by the police of turning out hundreds of faked modern masterpieces, he is alleged to have replied: "The owners are as happy with them as though they were originals, and I never charged more than 20 guineas for them." When Khoury-Gomnene is charged, stacks of canvases purporting to have heen painted by Picasso, iMatisse, Boldini, Itrillo, Renoir and Maillot will be exhibited. For weeks Paris art dealers have been flooded with the fakes. Mademoiselle Latour, well known in French art circles, was at first suspected. .Slie was arrested, but released wherf Khoury-Comnene's workshop was located. . The French police say that hundreds of the clever fakes have been sold in all parts of the world.
