C. Hailey, in the Whangarei Oourt to-day when Fredei'iclc James Kjoller, formerly a farmer of Broadwood, was charged that at Broadwood on July 1. PUt?, he committed an otfence against the Servicemen's Settlement Act by accepting £200 in excess of the amount for the i'aiaii and chattels approved by the Land Saies Court. Kjoller pleaded guilty and was reinanded to February 8 for sentence. He sold the farm to Gordon Mervyn Jones, vhose purchase was fnianced by the Rehabilitation Department. He had knovvn Jones for the past 18 years. Before entering the armed forces, -Jones had lived in a cottagp on Kjoller's farm. After his discharge Jones discussed with Kjoller Ihe possibility of taking over - Ihe farm, which Kjoller valued at £3800. Subseqiently tiie Rehabilitation Department offered Jones a loan oi' .£3000 tu purchase the farm, that heing the amount approved by the court, £2400 heing for the farm and £1)00 for ihe stock and chattels. Kjoller and Jones arranged an ex-c-hange of cars. Kjuller's heing valued at £280, and Jones* al £880. The exc'nange was made. and Jones in addition, gave Kjoller t wo rheijue.-. for £50 each. Following ihe amendinent of the Acl by which the puivhaser was given an indenmit y for his pavt in the tvansaction, Jones reported the transaction, which led to a poliee einiuiry. vKjoller said Jones was anxious to gct the farm, and thal he had taken a major part in the negotiaiions to sell at a price greater than thai lixed bv the court.
