POUR NEW RECORDS

(Press Assn.-

OHINEMUTU BOY'S FINE BREASTSTROKE DISPLAY

— By Telegraph— Copyright.)

HAMILTON, Saturday.Four new records were established at the first session of the 1947 South Auckland Swimming (Ghampionships at the Municipal Baths this morning. In one of the smoothest displays of breaststroke seen at the baths for a number of years, C. Nissen, a junior boy representing the Ohinemutu Club, broke existing records in the 100 yards and 75 yards junior boys' breaststroke. In a swim over in the 75 yards Nissen clipped 10 seconds off the record. The merit of his performance was enhanced by tlie fact that he was unaccompanied. His time was 62 3-5s. Swimming in the 100 yards in his exemplary style, he covered the distance in 1.24 4-5, a time which bettered the previous record by 15 seconds. The records commeneed to tumble from the first race when the diminutive Maori, E. Morrison (Whakarewarewa) swam the 33 1-3 yards tiny tot girls' event in 21 4-5s., 'or 3 l-5s. better than the 1945' record. Trevor -Borman lived up 'to expectations when he took the 440 yards intermediate boys' title with consummate * ease. The young Hamilton swimmer at no time appeared fully extended to cover tbe distance in 6m. 14s, breaking tbe record established by L. Brewster, of Morrinsville, in 1'941 by 2 4-5 s. At the end of three lengths Borman had a lead of six yards over D. Calderi'with P. Holman about three yards behind. With three lengths remaining Borman had twovhirds of a length in hand. He finished with exactly a length lead over his nearest rival, Calder. Miss S. Seager showed a great improvement in the 220 yards intermediate girls' backstroke and in a swim over she took 3.37 2-5s. Two surprises of the morning's contests were registered by Misses- D. Edgar (Te Kuiti) and M. Heather (Hamilton), who won their heats of the 10'0 yards intermediate girls' freestyle. Miss Edgar outswam Miss H. 5 Awatere of Ohinmutu in the first heat and Miss Ileather came away in the final lap of the second race to defeat Miss B. Ferguson, of Morrinsville, by a yard. The disappointment in the second heat was the non-appearance of Miss E. Timihou, Ohinemutu, who has contracted pleurisy and did not make the journey. Abbreviations used in the following finals are: Cambridge (C), Hospital (II), Hamilton (Hm), Huntly (H;u), Morrinsville (Mv), Matamata (Ma), Te Puke (TeP), Tirau (T), Te Awam utu (TeA), Te Kuiti (TeK), Y.M.C.A.
