FIRE WARNING BY MR. SKINNER

WELLINGTON, Saturday. A recurrence of conditions likely to cause a rapid spread of scrub and l'orest fires, especially in the Rotorua, Taupo and Bay of Plenty districts, was the subjeet of comment by the Commissioner of State Forests, ths Hon. C. F. Skinner, to-day. Three days of hot, dry weather since rain on New Year's Eve had l'educed the lighter fern and scrub to a dangerously dry state and light rains would give only temporary relief. Mr. Skinner stressed the need not only for extreme care but also for the co-operation of all residents, holiday-makers and roadk travellers to prevent a repetition of last summer's disastrous fires. Immediate notification of all fires, however small, to forest service officers, police stations cr post offices would enable them to be dealt with promptly.
