LONDON, January 13. All Britain's six fast fleet aircraft carriers will ihe laid up in reserve because of the manning* position, says the naval coivespondent of the Sunday Times. The Royal Navy's air operations will then he left to the six light carriers, which were conceived in great emergency during ihe war with the idea of converting tliem to passenger liners when the war was over. This idea has now been abandoned.' Indefatigable and Indomitable are already in retirement and Yictorious and Formidahle will follow them when they return from their last trooping trips on Japuary 14 and February 3 respectively. Implacable is now having a brief res-pite in vhe Home Fleet and Illustrious is acting as a trials carrier. All the fast carriers were completed during* the war. They carry from HjO'O to 2000 mep ^nd 60 to 70 aircraft, and are, therefore, expensive to maintain and difficult to man.
