Dairy Factory Employees' Decision To-Night
HAMILTON, Last Night. A stop-work meeting of dairy factory employees took place in the Waikato yesterday and resolutions were passed to the effect that unless the report of the delegates who acted as the workers' assessors in connection with the conciliation proceedings held in Wellington last week was favourable, a strike in the industry would take place next Thursday. A meeting of the executive of the Dairy Factory Employees' Union will be held at Frankton tomorrow night, at which the delegates will submit their reports. The offer of an increase in wages laid befc-re the Conciliation Commission in Wellington by the employers' assessors was not aecepted and the workers' assessbrs asked for an adjournment of the proceedings. The motion was opposed by the employers' assessors and was carried on the casting vote of the Commissioner, Mr. Ritchie. There is a general feeling in the Waikato that the strike will take place, and the employers' organisation has recommended that no effort should be made by the farmers to process their products. The losses that will accrue to the industry will be exceedingly heavy, but these losses would have been heavier had the stoppage occurred in the peak of the season, in November and December. Farmers will be required to milk their cows but not to do anything with their produce.
