AUCKLAND, Last Night. Rain overnight had effected the wieket at Eden Park for the contiriuation of the Plunket Shield match between Auckland and Canterbury to-clay, and this morning wickets fell quickly. Auckland resumed its first innings with 6 down for 209 in reply to Canterbury's score of 299. The wicket was easy-paced for the first few overs and with Sutcliffe in ccnfident form, runs came quiclcly at the start. Sutcliffe scored a four and a glorious six from suceessive balls, and eontinued to bit merrily, reaching his century with a powerful drive to the boundary, At 111, be was caught on the square leg boundary by Shand offff Burtt. The rest of tkte Auckland batsmen, with the exception of Scott and Wiles, went very cheaply. The wickets eontinued to* tumhle in Canterbury's second innings, the visitors makin'g a very poor start. Disaster came early when Cromb was caught by Scott close in on the leg side off Snedden, before be had scored. Burtt was dismissed in exaetly the same way when the side's total was only six.
When the total was 15, Parks gave Sneddon his third wicket when he cocked up a catch to Wiles at silly mid-c-n. At this stage Sneddon had bowled eight overs, four maidens, three wickets for nine runs, while Cowie's eight overs had cost only nine runs. Xnderson and Scott were together at the luncheon adjournment with the. score at 21 for the loss of three wikcets. Anderson, when was 18, cpened his shoulders for the first time to a ball from Sneddon, which he apparently tbought was well out on the leg side. He missed it and the ball came back to knoclc his leg stump back. Pollitt came jn and in the same over j Taylor dived to hold a good eatcb and ! five wickets were down for 38 runs. Sneddon had then taken all the wickets for 18 runs. , In Burke's next over, Scott mistimed a drive and Wallace took an easy catch. | A great stand was made on the eighth wicket partnership of Smith (who was dropped early by Taylor), and Burgess. Smith eontinued to play the bowlhrg confidently, and he was six past his century when he was caught by Cowie off Sutcliffe. The strike o-f Burgess yielded 32, when he was caught by Kent off Buxfft. Auckland, in its second strike, has . 22 on without loss. Details;. —
