Heroic. Girl l.oses Life In Vain Rescue Attempt
LONDON, January 10. Five childreiij whose ages ranged from 31 years to 13, wore liurned lo death in a five at the house of Mr. John Gray, miner, of Askern, near Doncaster. The youngest was the child oi Mr. and Mrs. Gray, and the other foiiv were Mrs, Gray's children by a formor marriage. The children wero alone, Mr, Gray being at work and his wife visiting relatives. It is understood the iiie was caused by cinders falling out of a grate. The house hlazed so fiercely that rescue was impossible. When the Gre started, the eldest child, a girl, rau to a reighbour for help. She returncd with a youth of 16, who brolce down the tront door. Flames singed her hair and scorclied his clothes. In spite of his etforts to stop her, ihe girl rau past him upstairs, and died with the orhers.
