ARAWA TENNIS CUP COMPETITIONS

Interest in tennis has never been more keen than during the Arawa Cup inter-zone matehes, among five teams- in the Rotoiti district conducted under the direction of the Rotoiti Association which acts as sub-association. With -the elimination of the Ohau tearn. by the Otaramarae Club and. of Mourea by Taheke, a semi-final was played between Taheke and Huimai at Ruato last Sunday, resulting in an easy win for Taheke. This leaves Taheke and Otarmarae to play the ''inal next Sunday at the former cluh's :ourts. The succ^ssful team will play off for the Arawa Gup against the leading team of the Mokoia sub-as-aociation, the district heing from the Te Ngae junction to Ngapuna. „ Present indications on the Taheke's team's form are of a keen struggle against the consistent Otaramarae team. Memorial Flagstaff At the opening of the Whangamarino Native School next year the jupils and parents also will note an i iddition to the school surroundings in I he erection of the Soldiers' Memoral carved flagstaff overlooking the lorbhern ,side of the main classroom. I A-nother section of the local Maori I residents ta'king) actvantage of the holidays are thse connected with the erection of a -meeting-house at Taheke Pa. With all the young local Maori boys on holiday, Mr. Tiahiawa Tahuriorangi, cbief builder, took the Dpportuiiity to start laying the foun- - iatkfns while those regarding it as a very important matter readily helped. Work is progressing favaurahly.
