YOUTH CRIME
A year ago Canada's famed Royal Canadian Mounted Police launched a campaign to attack juvenile delinquency through direct participation by R.C.M.P. constables and officers in a Dminion-wide educationar campaign. And, officials believe they have. been largely auccessful in explaining the airns and activities of the federal force and 'impressing on youth that a policeman should be regarded as a friend' and protector rather than someone to be feared and avoided. The main weapon in the campaign is public speaking and thousands of talks were given at youth centres, clubs and in the schools. It is recognised that the R.C.M.P., v/ith the dashing red-coated uniform and the glamour of 'its history and traditions, has a decided advantage in reaehing youth with this type of education. Designed for all types of audiences, French or English-speakii.g, and illustrated by moving pictures, the talks have such titles as "The Story of ths R.C.M.P.," "Pblicing the Far North," "The Story of Our Law," "The Public and the Police," "Safety Rules," "Discipline" and "Courtesy."
