NATIONALISATION OF COALMINES

WELLINGTON, last night. Nqw that the Government' s programme has been endorsed by the electors of New Zealand, it will give effect to- its policy of nationalising the coalmines and coal deposits. This statement was made in an interview by the Minister nf Mines, Mr. McLagan. . Such nationalisation, he said, was announced as part of Government policy at the recent general eleetion. The 'Government intends seeking information from the British Government concerning the proeedure adopted in negotiating the nationalisation of mines there. Mr. 'McLagan said the British Government seemed to have made a reasonably good bargain, and he would like to know somefchin'g of the details. In New Zealand, he said, the •State already owned a substantial proportion of the country's coal industry.
