TRIESTE CONTROL BY SECURITY COUNCIL

NEW YORK, January 8. When the Security Council considered the Trieste document referred to it by the Foreign Ministers, Mr. Makin (Aus'ralia), expressed doubt whether the Charter gave the council power to accept the responsibilities involved. Mr. Makiri said the council in effect, will be the supreme govern- ! ing body over Trieste. The Syrian delegate said nothing | in ihe Charter jus 11 ed the council's j aceeptance of such • responsibilities. I M. Gromylco and Sir Alex Cadogan both expressed the opinion that the. situation vvas covered by Article 24 of the Charter. They said it would be a pity if ihe council could not accept some responsibility.
