DUTCH READY TO SIGN AGREEMENT
LONDON, Jan. 6. The Dutch Commission-General, which reached a settlement with the Indonesians in November, left by air to-day for Batavia with Government authority to sign the agreements and discuss further details, says the American Press Amsterdam correspondent. Dr. Schermerhorn,. the Dutch Prime Minister, told the Dutch News Agency: "We are not the only people with difficulties." He added that he would not like to bear responsibility for the present policy in Indo-China. Renewed Fighting In Sumatra BATAVIA, Jan. 5. j The Indonesian Premier, Dr. : Sjahrir, announced that fighting had , j brolcen out in Palembang, Sumatra. j He described the situation- as "most serious." The Republicap Governor of South Sumatra had reported that fighting flared up after the Dutch ordered the Indonesians to withdraw from the city and the area 20 miles around it.
