PERU TO POLYNESIA BY RAFT
To Prove Possibility Of Migration From America LONDON, January 3. A 4000-mile voyage by a raft from Peru to the islands of Polynesia will be undertaken in February by six Norwegians. Their object is to prove by practical example that the original settlers of Pacific island groups could have coir.e from the American continent and not from Asia, as a majority of scientists believe. The leader of tbe expedition will be Mr. Thor Heyerdahl, who served with the Allied forces as a parachutist during the war, and took part in campaigns in Arctic Norway. Mr. Heyerdahl has been promised the last type of American Army waterproof equipment and rations by the United States War Department. Apart from this, the expedition will be privately finance'd. Two other members ot the party will be Norvregian Army lieutenants, each of whom was awarded the British D.S.O. for .services against the Germans.
