ROTORUA EXPERIENCES MINOR HEAT WAVE

Hotter To-Day . Holiday makers and visitors alike sweltered in yesterday's heat wave, which burst unexpectedly upon the Rotorua area after the grey drizzling weather of the past few days. Shorts and sun suits soon blossomed on the streets of the town and thousands of people visited the haths. The Blue Baths were well patronised throughout the day, and the Ward Baths reported good trade also. A near tragedy was averted at the Ward Baths by the arrival of towels just as stocks were almost depleted. Temperatures throughout the .Rotorua area were over the 70 mark but fell rapidly after sunset. Humid-, ity was also high, heing well over 40 per cent. The GovePnment Meteorologist advises that to-day will pro-bably be hotter in this area. Practically the whole c-f New Zealand was without rain yesterday, the only falls being recorded at Cook Strait and one or two isolated showers in Southland.
