OLD YEAR— NEW YEAR FESTIVITIES
P arades Of Decorated Vehicles / Old Year 1Q46 will'be escorted into history and i;he New Year welcomed in spectacul&r fashion in Rotorua today, The most important function during th/e day will be a street parade °f _ 'deco/fated vehicles, with special prizes/for visitors' decorated cars for ''he l^est fancy costumes on foot, and j-sptions for the children. The parade ivill assemble at the Government Gardens at 3 p.m. and again at 7.30 p.m. The winners in the parade, whick is expected to be the best for several years, will be announced outside the Borough Council buildings at 9 p.m. and to a concert on the lake front, beginning at 9 o'clock, the contributors will be a Maori entertainment party, the Auckland City Boys' Band and the Rotorua Pipe Band. The festivities will conclude wTith a bonfire and fireworks display just before midnight. Of particular interest to sportsmen will be the Rod and Gun Glub's shoot to-morrow, New Year's Day, while at the Government Gardens a twoday flu|ll rinks to)rrnament will be commenced under the conduct of the Rotorua Bowling Club. -'Ehtries of rinks will be received up to 9 a.m. tomorrow, and the first round of matches will begin soon afterwards. Play will conclude on Thursday afternoon. ; There will be another full programme of entertainment on Thursday when tbe Rotorua Girls' Marching Association and tbe South Auckland Pipe Band Centre will hold the stage at Arawa Park. The girls' teams will march off from the Ritz Hall at 1 p.m., and for the piping and drumming and massed displays there will be three bands in action — these belonging to Hamilton, Tauranga and Rotorua, The prizes will be presented at a dance in the Ritz Hall. Over 30 visiting and Rotorua artists as well as the Tauranga Pipe Band, will contribute to a variety entertainment in the Municipal Theatre in the evening. The Municipal Theatre will again be the venue of a concert by the Taiporutu Club, in conjunction with the 30,000 Club on Friday night.
