ALL DISTRICT SIGHTS WELL PATRONISED

Although the weather over the week-end was by no means ideal, this did not cleter a gTeat number of sightseeing motorists touring the many beauty spots around Rotorua. The most popular trip, judging by the number of cars, was that to the buried. village at Wairoa and Lake Tarawera. There was a large number of visitors inspecting the ruins of the village on Sunduy. Down near the jetty on Lake Tarawera many motorists were viewing the great mountain from which molten lava and hot ashes, which covered 5700 square miles of land, was emitted. The vantage point between the Blue and Green Lakes was also well patronised, although the dullness of the weather at : times prevented the full beauty of the two , waters from being realised. The lakes were well-fished over the week-end with some good catches reported from Rotoiti. The thermal area at Waimangu was not as popular on Sunday as might have been expected, but local reports say that the resortTdo-es not gain full popuiarity till later in the season. Tikitere saw a stream of visitors, as did Whakarewarewa. All the motor camps in the distriet are filled to capaeity, as are the maiiy camping points along the lake fronts.
