WINNER OF LITERARY PRIZE OF £2000
The honour of winning* first prize •in a literary competition, organised by the Siynney Morning Herald, has gone to Miss Rju,th Park (Miss Darcy Niland) formerly of Auckland. The competition, which was for an Australian novel, earries a prize of £2000, the prizes as >a whole being* the largest ever offered in a competition in Australia. 'Miss Park's success is al lthe more interesting as only _last month she was the winner of a literary competition conducted by the magazine N.Z. Writers and Composers' Magazine, published in Rotorua. This contest, carrying a prize of £15, and the Fiank Porter Cup, centred aroiund farm or animal life, there being over 150' entries. Born in Auckland, Miss Park spent her childhood days in . the Bay of Plenty area. After having a number of articlfis and stories published in New Zealand papers, she joined the staff of the Auckland Star before going to Sydney, where she married an Australian journalist, Mr. Darcy Niland. ' Miss Park returned to Auckland. with 'her two young children •early this year and went back to Australia last month. She is 29 years of ageP '
