RECORD POSTAL TRAFFIC IN ROTORUA
The increasing volume of mails and telegrams handled by the staff of the Rotorua Post Office is shown by figures supplied by the Postmaster, Mr. H. L. Walden, yesterday. In the two days before Christmas, no fewer than 4834 telegraph messages passed through the office, of which number 2798 were handled on Deeember 24. The total handled last year, over a similar period, was 4089, of which 2728 were dealt with on the day before. Christmas. During the period from Deeember 18 to 24, 917 bags of inward mails and parcels were ^handled by the Rotorua office, of "which 604 were mail bags. Some 714 bags of outward parcels passed through the hands- of the post office staff. The grattd total handled in the same period last year was 1583 bags, of which 843 were inward and 740 were outward bags. Exceptionally heavy postings were made on Deeember 16 and 17. It is stated that the post office staff has without a doubt handled a record amount of mail during this Christmas period.
