The required runs were quickly made by Barron and Holford. Ray Spedding 4 for 21, bowled well against 'CityAlbion's second innings. Old Boys XI Hold Off Kahukura The match Old Boys v. Kahukura,, was one of varying fortunes and at times both sides Were very much in the picture. Ol'd Boys hatted first and were all out for 137 — a small total, when the potential batting strength of Kahukura is considered. W> C'ostello, for Old Boys batted very soundly, making 51 not out. This colt hias been batting well this season and thoroUghly deserved his inclusion in the Bay of Plenty colts' side. When Kahukura batted, wickets fell quickly. Ewert, Hobhs and Sheriff were on the spot, with the result that Kahukura, at stumps had six wickets down for only 32 runs. The next Saturday saw Old Boys with a weakened side as five of their players were in the Bay of Plenty trial at Tauranga. D. Lawx*ence and L. Adams carried on fpr Kahukura. Adams was soon o-_ t but Don Lawrence hatted soundly and well for his side when every run counted, He was ably supported by D. Douglas 23. However, the innings finished 18 runs 'behind Old , Boy's , total. D. Ewert, G.^Hobbs and S. B'urgham bowled well for Olid Boys and J. -Sheriff, although he only took one wiclcet, bowled 31 overs for 30 runs, 15 of which were maidens, Old Boys seemed quite content to play out the remaining two hours of play. J. Dansey's v/icket was quick\y taken but B. Ryde and W. Higgins continued until stumps, these batsmen collecting 32 not out and 36 respectively. R. Martin, bowled well for Kahukura in Old Boys' first innings, taking 4 for 11. * My unofficial points tally reads R.S.A. .18, Old Boys 14, Kahukura 11, City-Albion 2, Ngongotaha 0 one bye), School 0.
