FOUR FOR 222 AGAINST WELLINGTON'S 389

-By Telegraph — Copyriuht.)

WELLINGTON, Last Night. ■ With four wickets down for 222 runs, Auckland appears to be faced with an uphill battle in the fmal day's play iii the Plunket Shield Match at Wellington to-morrow. The match has. developed into a gruelling battle, with the likelihood of play being confined to two single innings for the four days. Wellington made 389 in their first innings. Given fine weather td-riiorrow, a gate taking record is a definite possibility. The distinctive feature of the match has been the failure of the batsmen to reach three figures. Wallace and .Scott, for Auckland, were associated in a free-scoring partnership, t Wallace being in grand form. With 86 runs compiled in 414 minutes, he hooiked a shot ball straight to leg, where O'Neill brought off a fine eatch. Shortly afterwards Scott was •caught by Tindill hehind the wickets for 59. Conditions were unpleasant at the game to-day, rain having fallen in the moi-ning, but the wind changed, bringing- fine weather. The wicket received the benefit of the moisture, although the side was ouit out hy the bowlers.
