ANTARCTIC BASE NOT IN DISPUTE
Rumoor Of British Withdrawal Untrue LONDON, Dec. 26.
A British Foreign Office statement describes as unfounded tbe report that the United States State Department requested the withdrawal of the British expedition from the British territory of Marguerite Bay, in the Antarctic. The statement adds that a survey party there is living in a British-built hut where Britain maintains a meteorological station. Every assistance would be given to any future visit by an American party hut, supplies wc-uld not suffice for more than a few additional persons. On December 22 it was reported that a carefully-couched diplomatic Note was recently presented to the British Ambassador in Washington, Lord Inverchapel, informing the British that all buildings, food, coal, petrc-1 and other equipment left hy Admiral Byrd in 1941 must remain there for the Ronne expedition, which had the full backing of the American Government, and for any future United States scientific expedition.
