UNUSUAL CHRISTMAS SPENT AT SEA
LONDON, Dec. 26. Walmer lifeboatmen spent Christmas Eve afloat over the Gpodwin Sands, but did not miss their good cheer. They were standing by the American food ship North-Eastern Victory, which went aground on the Goodwins and brolce her hack. The steamer's crew lowered down cold turkey and pickles. The lifeboatmen had tots of rum, sang carols and lcept warm in the lifeboat's engineroora, while the frosty rime on deck and the sparkling frost on the stean^er 'provided Christmas decoration. The ship is in two parts, with a 20 feet gap separating them. It is hoped to salvage the food cargo in the stern half , which has not taken any water. The ship's captain and officers were taken off in time to spend Christmas Day ashore.
