Mr. W. S. Moorhouse
! The death occurred suddenly on , Sunday evening at the Tauranga Hos- | pital of Mr. W. S. Moorhoiuse, edi- | tor of the Bay of Plenty Times, at the ! age of .41 years. j Mr. Moorhouse, whose ' birthplaee j was Dunedin, was the youngest son of , the late Mr. C. E. Moorhouse and Mrs. 1 Moorhouse, of Auckland.' He was educated at the Christchurch Boys' ; School, an'd commenced his jouxnalI istic training on the staff of the | Christchurch Siun. He was later with the Otago Daily Times, and the Wairoa Star hefore accepting the position of editor of the Bay of Plenty Times in 1941. Although unable to take an active interest due to the nature of his work, Mr. Moorhouse was a keen supporter of many forms of sport. He was . seeretary of the Tauranga Cricket | Assoeiation, and the Tauranga Yaeht i and Power Boat Club and took an active part in training Sea Scouts. j The Moorhouse family has been as.sociated with the progress of Canter■bury since the very early days of the j Provinee, and the name is still known , in Christchurch. Mr. W. S. Moor- : house, great-grandfather of the late j Mr. Moorhouse, was superintendent of | the Canterbury Provinee, and was ! mainly responsible for the opening of j the first railway line in the country, i from Christchurch to Ferrymead, in | 1863. | The late Mr. Moorhouse is survived j by his wife.
