Some Latest Fashions Are Not So Modern
An added attraction in the "Britain Can Make It" Exhibition, still drawing- crows in London is the "600' Years of Fashion" section which opened recently. This exhibition within an exhibition, fills several immense rooms and is doing much to add to the gaiety of visitors, writes a London eorespondent. Some of the women's hats, particularly two dating frm 1599 ancl 1610, cauld actually be worn to-day .without causing comment. The exquisite old frocks need to be seen. to be helieved, especially one dating approximately from 1750. It is a pink flowerecl brocade pannier dress. "But it is not the women's attire which is causing- such delighted amusement at the exhibition," wi'ites the correspondent. "To enjoy to the full the landfield dress of our ancestors it would he necessary, as I did, to arrive at the exhibition at the same time as a g'ro'U;p of athletic broad-shouldered hoys from 18 to 24 years. Their remarks concerning the velvet suits, brocaded waistcoats lace trimmed riding boots artd herihboned shirts of the pep of the 16th and 17th centuries were a joy to all within hearing. "One thing is quite evident in the '6C0 Years of Fashion section, of the Exhibition.' " the correspondent adds. "Latest fashion styles in many in-' sfcances are heing adapted from those of past centuries." (
