British Girls Settle Down To Nursing Jobs

Of the 83 British girls who have so far arrived in New Zealand under contracts for mental hospital nursing work, only three have insisted on being released from their contracts, and no more than half a dozen are known to be undecided. These figures have been given officially by way of proving the exaggerated nature of rumours that there is widespread dissatisfaction amongthe British nursing recruits, of whom 220 in all are to be brought from Britain -under present Splans. The Director of Mental Hospitals, Dr. T.' G. Gray,. said that there had been some restlessness among some of the girls in their first weeks in New Zealand. It was due to a variety of reasons* — the aftermath of the long journey from Britain, the unfamiliarity of surroundings, and so on — but in all except a very few cases it had proved only temporary.
