WELLINGTON HOUSEHOLD HAS STRANGE GUEST
Runaway Lorry Causes Heavy Damage WELLINGTON, last night. One Wellington family suffered the reverse of a visit from P-anta Claus early on Christmas morning when a Milk Department lorry got out of control in reverse and crashed into a home in Constable Street, one of the main thoroughfares from the eastern suburbs. The lorry as it ran down the hill into the house scattered milk bottles. It smashed its way through a store cupboard serving a milk bar which ' was in the forepart of the building, knocked down and damaged a refrigerator and came to rest against a 'gas sto-ve. The 'sitting room carpet was submerged in milk and- butter, and jam and ice cream cones wei'e scattered. 'The tray of the lorry was badly splintered, and the cab was tom off. ; Residents of the house were -unhurt and were provided with Christmas dinner by the Milk Department at one of the city hotels, their own dinner materials having been lost in the smashed kitehen.
