Hottest Christmas Day For 10 Years
SYDNEY, Dec. 26. Although the maximum temperature yesterday was 84.3 degrees, high relative humidity made the day a "sticky" one. It was Sydney's hottest Christmas Day for 10 years. Warm and sultry weather is expected to-day, with a cool change late tonight. The police reported that Christmas Eve and Christmas Day were the quietest in Sydney for many years. Adelaide had a cold, wet Christmas which prevented play in the Sheffield Shield cricket match between South Australia and Queensland, delayed trains and made roads impassable. Over three inches of rain fell in some areas. Temperatures rose to 103.2 in MelBourne, where 20 per cent of the special Christmas trains were cancelled because of the heat. Perth had its hottest Christmas Day since 1915 with temperatures at 99.
