WATERSIDE DISPUTE ENTERS FIFTH WEEK

| AUCKLAND, last night. . j No further conference has yfet been called in an effort to end the deadlock in the waterfront dispute which is restricting the work of watersiders at . all major ports in New Zealand to a 40-hour week, five-day week. The dispute enters its fifth week to-morrow.' In Auckland today opinion of the parties concerned held little prospect for any immediate solution of the impasse, it being apparent that no basis for agreement had been reached at the conference in Wellington oh Mon1 day, wben the Minister of Labour, Mr. McLagan, met representatives of the Federation of Labour and exeeutive memhers of the' New Zealand Waterside Workers' Union. ' None of the parties has issued a -report on the conference, but activity has continued behind the scenes during the past two days, and it is under- ' stood that a further conference at an early date is being' considered. ! When Mr. H. Barnes, president of the national exeeutive of the Water- ' side Workers' Union, returned to Auckland on Tuesday from the conference in Wellington, he had no comi ment to mahe upon the negotiations ! which too'k place. ' .
