To-Day's Weather Forecast # Ahe Government Meteorologist has issue'd the following weather report and forecast: — Situation: Anti-cyclones are situ--ated in the north Tasman Sea. A cold front is advaneing on to the South Island from the somth-west. Forecast for Rotorua to midnight: Moderate winds from a westerly quarter. A fe-»v scattered showers, but weather otherwise fair to cloudy. Temperatures moderate. The maximum temperature recorded in Rotorua yetserday was 6'9.1 degrees, compared with 61.9 degrees on Christmas Day. For the 24-hour period ended at 9.80 a.m., Decemher S5, 0.17 ineh of rain was registered, and a frost of 3.8 degrees was recorded on Christmas moraing. Loco Tender Salvaged The tender of the engine' which plunged with its crev/ into the Manawatu on August 20 last, has0 now heen lifted from the river. The chassis was raised from the river some days ago. _ For the final lift, two 40-ton cranes were used. Holiday Fire Calls Three fire calls, one of which was false, -^-ere answered by the Rotorua brigade over the holiday period. The first was received on Christmas Eve at 7.15 p.m. from the transit hdusing camp, bnt proved to be a malieious alarm. A chimney fire at the Nurses' H'ome was the cause of the second cali c-n the same night, the fire being extinguished with first .aid equipment.' A motor cycle catching fire in Eruera Street at 1.50 a.m. on Christmas Day brought the brigade out again, the outbreak being quelled without difficulty.
