* LONDON, Dec. 19. The Minister of Food, Mr Strachey, has instrueted Food Ministry officials i tc: investigate the Australian and New Zealand proposal that the labelling of food order should be eased in its application to butter and other | dairy produce. The order stipulates i ! that where lnention is made in labels ! and advertisements of the vitamin or ' other content of any food the anio-nnt ; per ounce of the ingredient must he ; stated. | The New Zealand and Australian i authorities pointed out at a deputa- ! tion to the Minister that this oper- ! ated'in favour of such synthetic pro- ! ducts as margarine against butter j and natural produets in which the j quantities of vitamins and minerals, i though always present, varied with I climatic, feeding and other con- ! ditions. Eye to Normal Times ' The distinction at Ihe present time ; oi" shortage has little or no significance, hut the New Zealand and Australian authorities are working to secure tho position of natural ! produets when more normal times rei turn. The first shipment of sugar of ! dried eggs from Australia is due iit ! Britain soon. The process, which- is j already in use fn Canada and ] Argentina, was developed in Austra- ! lia with the assistanee of the British J Food Ministry export Mr. J. Brooke. Sugar of dried eggs is preferred j hy bakcrs and pastryeooks for its i superio-rity for eake-making. 'Trade j experts in Lon-don helieve the Ausj tralian product will wii- a permanent i plaee in ihe Ifritish market, largely J replacing the pulp which was i shipped i)i large (juantities before the war.
