MANGAPEEHI POST OFFICE THEFT
Over £600 Holiday Pay Stolen • HAMILTON, last night. Entering the Mangapeehi Post Office between closing time yesterday and when the 'staff resumeid this morning, an intruder forced open a locked drawer in the building and stole the Christmas and holiday pay of 20 men employed by Dixon and Speers. The exact. amount of the theft is not available, but it is believed to be between £600 -nd £700. The money apparently arrived at the Mangapeehi Post Office yestei'day an'd was to be kept there overnight in preparation for pay to-day, when the employees were to receive two fortnights' dues, in view of the holiday period. There was no sign of the office being broken into, but the forcing of the drawer wbere the money was placed was immediately noticed. * The Te Kuiti police were notified, and Constable H. B. Allsop, aftev- an investigation, reported to the Hamilton Oentral Police station and Detective J, Hayes left for the scene of the robbery late this morning'.
