TRANS-TASMAN AIR RECORD BROKEN
AUCKLAND, list night. A Royal Auistralian Air Force Moscfuito aircraft broke the transTasman air record to-day by three-quarters of an hour. Plying from Mascot to Wh'enuapai, this Australian-built macliine took j only three hours 48 minutes to j make the journey. It took off at 11.17 this morning j and arrived at 3.5 this afternoon. j The rgcord formerly stood to a i United States Mitchell bomber, which recorded four hours 33 minutes. Riding a steady westerly windJ j at 25,000 feet, the aircraft flew j at an average speed of 400 m.p.h. J for the greater part of the 1348- j mile journey.
