To-day's Weather Forecast 3 The Go-yernment Meteorologist has issued the following weather report and. forecast:— Situation: An extensive trough of low pressure covering the Tasman Sea is moving slowly on to New Zealand. , V Forecast^ for Rotorua to 5 p.m.: Moderate to fresh north-easterly wiifds. Weather cloudy and warm. J Court Fines A fine of £5 was imposed on ' Matere Munro in the Rotorua Magistrate's Court yesterday for being in posse^sion of liquor near a dance hall at Ohinemutu on No-vember 30. Albert E. Tawa was fined a similar amoufit for casting offensive matter. N.Z. Seashells Sought A request from a Frenchman in New York for samples of seashells found in Hawke's Bay has been received by the Hastings Chamber of Commerce. He asked for "the hno-st beautiful specimeris found in your locality." Perhaps this is a chance for a new industry, eommented the the president, Mr. E. J. Phillips. Profits From Kiwi Concert Tour Profits from the Kiwi Concert Party's second tour of Great Britain, amounting to ahout -£7000, is to be paid into Heritage (Inc.) This has been approved by Cabinet. The money will be paid into the Heritage central fund, which caters for over 200 child dependants . of deceased New Zealand servicemen. The organisation assists financially the dependants of servicemen who died during the war. s Arawa Reception Acknowledged An Acknowledgement of the reception of Lady Freybei'g and himself by the Arawa people on the Ohinemutu marae during their first official visit has been conveyed to the paramount chief of the Ngati-Whalcaue, Miro Amohau, by the Governer-Gen-eral, Sir Bernard Freyberg, V.C. His Excelleney also thanked the tribe for its present of a beautifully-inscribed =and engraved chest of New Zealand Yvoods. Health By-iLaws in County The Health 5 Inspeetor, Mr. P. A. Wallwork, yesterday interviewed the County Council on the question of applying the plumbing and drainage regulations to the Rotorua County. The county had previously been notified that it was not practicable to arrange for the legal application of the regulations in terms of the provision desired by the council. -After some discussion, it was decided to alter the hy-laws to cover the Whole of the county under the jurisdiction of the in-spector. Goldfield Days Recalled Believed to be one o'f the last, if not the last, S'urviying memhers of the large parties of Chinese who were hrought to Kumara to work as indentured labourers during the height of the gold rush, Jimmy Quong, died in the Grey Hospital. Quong became a well known figure around the West Coast, as with the decline in oldMnin-in-g he worked on various farms in the Grey Valley, and also in Chinese gardens in Marsden ,Road, Greymouth. He had lived at Bodytown for the past 10 years. Born in Hong Kong, he arrived at Hokitika 71 years ago. He was aged 85 years.
