AMERICAN SAILOR MISTAKEN FOR P.O.W.
An angry man with a broad American Miihlle-Wost accent, was led by military escort before the commandant of 278 German P.O.W. Camp, Clapliam, Bedford. "Ilernian Floetner, your escaped prisoner from New York," said the corporal, saluting. "But 1'in not, my name is George Peterson. I'm an Amei'ican f\eaman," said the man. And the C.O., after consulling the records, agreed with him. George Peterson is waiting in Winchester Prison for the Queen Mary to take him back to Ellis Island, New York. And on Ellis Island is Herman Floetner, still eitjoying the' alias of i George Peterson. The mix-up began when Floetner es- j caped on Junc 11, stowed away to the FLates, and was loeked in a cell next to Peterson. "Come on, son, you're going back to prison camp in Britain," they told Peterson. He nearly did.
