General Assembly Next Meets In September

NEW YORK, Deeember 16. The United Nations' General Assembly, after a comprehensive sitting", has adjourned until September 16, 1947. It has admitted Siam as a "member, the 55th country to join. The draft constitution. of the International Refugee Organisation has been approved. ^ Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt made it clear that although the United States supported the draft, it did not necessarily follow that Congressmen approved American participation. M. Gromyko, for Russia, opposed ihe draft, declaring that it was completely unsatisfactory. The Assembly has to 'deeide where the next meeting will be held. -'Europe has been proposed, ibut the SecretaryGeneral has pointed out that this would mean nioving the entire secretariat. Earlier the Assembly accepted a feeommendation that the World Federation of Trade Unions should have th'e right to sitbmit questions on the agenda of the Eeonomie Council. Britain and the United States voted against the proposal. The Assembly approved a Canadian proposal to set up a committee to find ways of speeding* up procedure. M. Spaak, the president, announeed the appointment of a sub-comniittee td work with the Security Council subcommittee on procedure over the mse of the veto.
