ALL-SOCIALIST GOVT. UNDER M. LEON BLUM
LONDON, Deeember 16. It is now authoritatively stated in Paris that M. Leon Blum has given up the idea of forming a Coalition Government. Instead, he will have an all-Soeialist Government. M. Blum is reported to have decided 011 a Cabinet for the meantime, and will announce it on Wednesday. M. Blum, who isc now 74 years old, ' became Prime Minister of France in 1036. The first Jew and the first Socialist to* attain that olf'ice, he introduced a 40-hour week, recognition . of the trades unions, relief works and other reforms. He was seize^ when the Germans overran his country in June, 1940, and later passed through eig'ht concenti'ation camps, including Dachau, before his release last May. A Russian report in 1944 said that M. Blum had, killed hy the Nazis. at Lublin. He married a second time while a prisoner of the Germans,
