SOIL CONSERVATION TESTS AT WAIOURU
MARTON, Last Niffht. A 60-acre experimental area on a deience reserve east of Waiouru Military Camp is to he established hy the Soil Conservation Control Council. Advice to this effeet was received hy the Rangitikei Catchmcnt Board at its meeting in Marton. Trials will he made with ways and means of expediting natural regeneration of grasses, shrubs and trees. Sowings will be made with a view tcobtaining information on which to base future works, said the letter from the council. The hoard also received a request from the council to select an area for experimental demonstrations. It was suggested that the board select three suitable sites, the final selection to he made by a small committee including the Soil Bureau, and forestry, agricultural and soil conservation experts. The Council was willing to assist the board, but it was nece'ssary for the hoard to have firm control of the area for at least seven years.
