N.Z. MAY ENTER FOR DAVIS CUP SERIES
WELLINGTON, Last Night. There is every possibility that New Zealand will eompete in the European zone in the 1947, Davis Cup competition. . A reeommendation " to the management committee to suhmit an entry was made by the unanimous decision of the 'council of the New Zealand Lawn Tennis Association. This will involve sending a team to England, as was done in some prewar seasons. "The management committee seems to have had the impression that New Zealand players are so weak that they are not worth sending away to a Davis Cup match because they would be hadly heaten up," said Mr. H. N. Burns. "I think that reprehensible and defeatist. That attitude will not be overcome until we send our players overseas and continue to send them as long as we can. "I think everyone will agree that the great names of New Zealand tennis are those players who had overseas experience. Players should be sent abroad as often as they are prepared to go. Many of them cannot alford to go and the only way we can do it is by entering a team in the European Zone of the Davis Cup." Dr. N. A. Foden pointed out that the management committee had nothing to do with the withdrawal this. year. He agree d that New Zealand should enter the European Zone next year. Members of the team would play in England and on the Continent, meeting all the leading players.
