FIRE AND EXPLOSION AT FREEZING PLANT
NEW YORK, Dec. 13. It is estimated that 25 were killcd, 24 injured, and 20 trapped in the debris of two buildings following a fire and explosion in a freezing plant. The explosion blew out the walls of the plant, also the walls of an adjoining seven-storey tenement in Washington Heights, Manhattan. The explosion was caused by the ignition of ammonia tanks in a disused freezing plant. More than 20 have already been sent to hospital, and rescuers and firemen are still digging for those believed missing. Hundreds of rescuers worked all day on the ruins c-f the wrecked tenement building, which eollapsed early this morning when the adjoining ice plant exploded. In addition to eight known dead it is now feared that at le'ast 35 others have perished. Th'e only sign of life this afternoon was a man's faint voice eoming from the debris.
