AUSTRALIAN PROTEST AT B.B.C. BROADCAST
LONDON, Deeemher 13. The Australian Residenf Minister in London, Mr. Beasley, to-day protested to the diroetor-general oi' the B.B.C., Sir Williain Ilaley, against a statement by D)-. 0. E. M. Joad in a Brains Trust hroadeast that the British people had more in common with the peoples of we--tern Eui'ope than with the "farmers, bushrangers and businessmen of Australia and Canada." Sir William Haley contended that fi-eedom of the air was involved. Mr. Beasley replied that he had no desire to interfere with the freednn of the air, hut it was undesiraiile that a B.B.C. speaker should inake a disparaging reference to Anstralians ns bushrangers and farmers. The farmers were doing their best to feed Britain and the bushrangers had givtn a good account of themselves in Ihe war. Mr. Beasley added that it was undesiraiile that there should be slignting comment on Ilritain's kinship with the Dominions. Mr. Beasley, dissatisfied with tho result of the conversation with Sir William Haley. is now seeking an iuterviow with M-\ Attlee.
