POST-ELECTION LABOUR CAUCUS TUESDAY
The first post-election caucus of the Parliamentary Labora* Party is expected to assemble at Parliament Buildings on Tuesday. The igeneral election and questions arising from it as they affect the party's representation in the House are expected to be the principal business. Caucus may last some days. The party will give consideration to the problem of filling the office of Speaker, vacan't through the defeat of Mr. Schramm. The retirement from politics of the Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Robert?, necessitates the appointment of a successor. Two likely candidates are Mr. E. L. Cullen, member for Hastings, and Mr. Ormond Wilson, member for Palmerston North. The defeat of Mr. J. Thorn, and Mr. E. P. Meachen, Parliamentary Under-Secretaries respectively to the Prime Minister and the Minister of Works, leaves those posts to be considered for new appointments. The allocation of the portfolio of Postmaster-General, following the retirement of the Hon. P. C. Webb, will probably be made by caucus, and it is believed that this will revert to the Hon. F. Jones.
