GAS EMPLOYEES GO OUT ON STRIKE
SYDNEY, Dec. 12. The management committee of the Gas Employees' Union decided to declare a strike in the Sydney gasworks. Production will be maintained by staff men while the gas companies consider their policy to-day. Rationing is considered inevitable. Victorian gas workers went on strike yesterday, and Federal offieials of the union decided to recommend strike action to branches iri New South Wales, South Australia and Tasmania. The men claim a minimum wage of £6 18s a week, extension of annual leave from three to four weeks for shift workers after ten years5 service, compulsory unionism and an anfiual picnic for all employees.
