Hawera, FridayAn electrical storm of unusual j severity left a trail of minor damage j to services and crops in South Tara- i naki last night. ■In the outlying districts from j Hawera several high tension fuses i were blown out, interrupting the | power service till midnight. Transformers fused at Patea, where , the storm lasted for an hour. {Hail ranging (from the size of small j marhles at Hawera to the dimensions , of pigeons' eggs in outlying districts : fell over a wide area, followed hy heavy rain. J •A whirlwind advancing from th'e sea tore tiles from the roof of the j Hawera. Hospital, leaving a gap six 1 feet square, cut a swathe through lu- ; cerne crops eight feet wide, and partly razed several trees. Two waterspourts at sea off the Waverley Beach approached rapidly alarming campers, but eventuaUy passed on each side of the camping reserve. The- sea beneath each column was churned to fury. I Terrific hail showers, accompanied by lightning and thunder, ended the spectacle. !
